Welcome Address

Dear conference participants,

Welcome to the inaugural Character and Citizenship Education Conference jointly organised by the National Institute of Education and the Ministry of Education. The conference aims to provide directions for Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) for Singapore schools, and offer a plethora of ideas and perspectives of CCE in both the local and overseas contexts.

The conference theme, Active & Concerned Citizens: Building Character for Community, will focus on the importance for stakeholders in education to synergise efforts in nurturing our children to be active contributors and concerned citizens for the community. This conference promises to be an enriching and beneficial experience as there will be engaging local and overseas experts who will speak from their deep knowledge, experience and research in CCE. Our schools will also present their CCE journey which has enabled them to better appreciate the interconnectedness of values, knowledge, skills and competencies in building our children's moral fibre and deepening their sense of citizenship.

Through the various conference sessions, we are confident that each of us will have a surer grasp of our roles in CCE as we take away useful ideas that help us build our students to become good and useful citizens. We strongly encourage you to participate actively, and take the opportunity to also dialogue and network with other participants.

We wish you a fulfilling and enjoyable conference!
